Mahashivratri
Mahashivratri falls on 13thNight and 14th day of the month of Phalguna.
MahaShivratri is considered to be the auspicious day of the year. On this day its said that all the constellations and planets align in such a way that it increases the overall consciousness of the universe. So if you chant the mantra whole night its said you can easily meditate.
History of mahashivratri,
Mahashivratri is celebrated as on this day God Shiv got married with godess parvati.
The second story is on this day God Shiv drank the Poison that came out while Gods And Asuras were churning the mountain.
Another tale is a man sitting on top of billipatra tree showered billipatra unware of that he was showering it on shivalinga and the whole night he continued showering billipatra leaves on it.
Due to this act shiva got happy and he gave boon to him.
So these are the main stories behind the celebration of mahashivratri.
Benefits of fasting during mahashivratri
There are many benefits if one fasts during Mahashivratri. Devotees start fasting in the morning on the day of Mahashivratri and continues till the next day morning.
During fasting devotees mostly eat Fruits, milk and water.
Junagadh Mahashivratri
There are many sadhus in Junagadh who live in Caves only. But on the day of MahaShivaratri they come out from the caves and smoke lots of weed. They follow God shiv as he used to Smoke weed and Drink Bhang.
On the day of Mahashivratri there is a huge fair organised. Where Sadhus without any clothes put on take bath in damodar kund. Its said out of all sadhus who dive deep into damodar kund one sadhu come out less. The one who is dissapeared is form of God Shiv.
